Color Throwdown Wednesday
Today's Color Throwdown has an Autumn feel! Barbara's our hostess and she's picks some beautiful colors for us to work with today.
Something funny happened to me...I was at my Grandmother's on Monday afternoon and her basement is a goldmine for different craft findings. On this particular day I scored some vintage zippers which she let me take home. SCORE! Then Tuesday morning, I had to wait TWO hours at Toyota for my oil to be changed. Seems silly, but it was a much welcomed break! Is that pathetic? Wait...don't answer that! I watched a movie and read Paper Crafts Mag from cover to cover where I was inspired by their piece on using zippers!!! How convenient!! I scored a bag of them just the day before!
So here's what I did with this week's colors, my new zipper loot, this week's Mojo Monday sketch#165 and the All Zipped Up! Challenge in the Moxie Fab World:
The zipper flower was really simple to make. I started by punching a scallop circle using my SU! punch. This is for the base I used to adhere my flowers to. I then cut eight strips of zipper into 2.5 in pieces. I folded them over into petal shapes and adhered them one at a time to my punched base. I then took a different colored zipper and rolled a half length and sort of opened it up and smooshed it (technical terms here people) until I liked the looked and added some craft glue dots under it and held it place to maintain the shape I liked. I tried and I tried and I tried to add a center. I think it was this particular project that a center just competed too much with the rest of everything else going on. So I decided to waive my right to a flower center :) But I tried all kinds of different things that I think would be fun; buttons, cork circle, Build-A-Brad from SU!, rhinestones, other fancy brad, felt doodad just to name a few.
I show Big Keith everything I make. I don't think he was sure of what to make of this *flower* and said it kind of looked like an octopus!! HA!!! Maybe he's right, but I like it and that's all that matters...well....it matters to me if you like it too.. I hope you do. He also asked me why I made a brown flower and I politely responded "because that was the color zipper I had that matched the challenge colors this week." He just shook his head and kind of walked away as if to say that I should speak in English! HA! Normally he is wayyyy more supportive than this and I knew I was taking a risk judging by his response. I'm totally making more though and am going to head to the craft store on a mission to score cheap zippers! I think ones with plastic, color coordinated teeth would also make a nice option! I might pull this one right off my card and make a brooch out of it. Who knows! I can't go giving away Grammy's vintage zippers now, can I? I'm sentimental like that.
Anywhoo, would you like to play along? Make a card or papercrafted project using the challenge colors or similar to the challenge colors if you don't have the exact ones and upload it to the Color Throwdown Challenge blog using the InLinkz tool.
