MFT Guest Designer Contest for April

Well, it's a good thing I looked again tonight at the cut off for entering into the My Favorite Things Guest Designer contest for April. I've been working on this card for a few days and realized the cut off is tonight! Eek!

I had a few minutes in my craft room tonight so I was able to finish up, thankfully. I will have to say, I'm really missing my sewing machine still! Especially for this month's challenge which was to create a shabby chic card. Another Eek! It's not really something I do alot, so if not for nothing, I pat myself on the back for stepping out from my comfort zone and trying something new!

Eek, three....shabby chic and no seam binding!! I mean, the two go hand in hand do they not?! So last week I went to JoAnn's and picked up some but it's not really the right kind, but I will say that I really like it. It's folded over so I could really *puff out* the bows after I was done tying! I dyed it using my Baja Breeze reinker and I really like the uneven effect. It's adds to the shabby chic I think.

So I'm rambling on, here's my project:

I started out with this sweet Pure Innonce image which I printed onto cream card stock and colored in a fashion I thought look a bit washed out and vintage. I distressed the edges and stamped some text around to make it look old. I paper pieced her dress with this fabulous vintage-y paper I got at AC Moore and I added in some vintage sheet music which is from an old piano book from 1964-ish! I found it at my mom's, sweet! My sentiment is a decal from one of the first pack of decals I ever purchased when I first started paper crafting in 2003. I know I didn't have to use old stuff, it just turned out that way.

What do you think?

I definitely love the softness of this style. I feel an urge to buy all things shabby chic! I'm so glad I challenged myself to participate!

I'm off to link it up at the contest gallery! Thank you for stopping by and have a fantastic night!

  2. Well, this is just the cutest thing---I think you are probably going to start a new trend! I can see hundreds of crafters running to their sewing rooms, pulling out their bias tape & dying, tying, and shabbying it up!!! Seriously, this is a beautiful card, esp. since you say you don't do shabby. It's gorgeous!
